Employed in the Forest Industry for over 29 years, my roles as Supervisor, Facilitator, Instructor and Trainer have blessed me with endless opportunities to work with every type of employee. When it comes to expanding one’s knowledge – whether it be union, staff or management; everyone is the same. There is a level of interest in “wanting to learn” if the instructor, teacher or mentor approaches the classroom with an open mind, supportive attitude and compassionate state of mind. Thus is so with the latest career change I have implemented for myself in the past year – as an instructor in a post secondary educational environment. I’ve always believed that the role of the adult instructor is not to direct, but to become a contributing positive support entity in the classroom; encouraging adult students to learn.
